Gap acquires Janie and Jack, Children's Place acquires Gymboree
March 03, 2019
As you may have heard, Gymboree Brands filed for bankruptcy in January. They have been looking for a buyer while closing all stores in the US and Canada and having HUGE sales. There is still quite a lot of stuff left at JanieandJack.com.
But now a buyer (or two buyers actually) have been found. Gap will acquire Janie and Jack, as they look to expand their brand after splitting with Old Navy. And Children's Place will acquire Gymboree and Crazy 8 also. According to USA Today, Gap will pay about $35 million and Children's place about $76 million.
It's unknown if this means any future Gymboree Janie and Jack or Crazy 8 stores will open. Probably not any time soon. Gap is planning to close half of its stores over the next two years.
